ACHS Campus Important Information


  • When returning to school after an absence, a student must bring a doctor’s note or a note signed by the parent describing the reason for absence
  • A student has 3 days to submit a note regarding any absence
  • An automated calling system will call the student’s home the night of an absence from school
  • Students should bring a note from home if they must leave during the day for appointments
  • All students leaving campus must sign out in the front office

Compulsory Attendance

  • State law requires that a student between the ages of six and 18 attend school, as well as any applicable accelerated instruction program, extended year program, or tutorial session, unless the student is otherwise excused from attendance or legally exempt.
  • A student who voluntarily attends or enrolls after his or her 18th birthday is required to attend each school day until the end of the school year. If a student 18 or older has more than five unexcused absences in a semester, the district may revoke the student’s enrollment.
  • When a student between ages 6 and 19 incurs unexcused absences for three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period, the school will send a notice to the student’s parent, as required by law, to remind the parent that it is the parent’s duty to monitor his or her child’s attendance and to require the student to come to school.
  • If a student ages 12–18 incurs unexcused absences on ten or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year, the district, in most circumstances, will refer the student to truancy court

Dress and Grooming

It is the goal of the AIM Center High School to promote a safe and pleasant environment for all students. The dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, to prevent disruption, and to minimize safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:

  • All shirts/blouses must have sleeves. Sleeveless shirt/blouses, tank tops, halters, muscle shirts, see-through blouses, or tops with low necklines or severely cut armholes are not permitted. No undergarments should be visible at any time.
  • Midriffs and backs must not be exposed. Tops must join or overlap skirts, pants, or trousers at all times.
  • Jeans and other apparel should have no holes above the knee. Any holes should be patched and pants should be properly hemmed.
  • Jeans that are oversized must be worn with a belt. No undergarments should be visible at any time, standing or seated.
  • Dresses and skirts should be at or below the knee cap.
  • Knee length shorts and skorts are permitted.
  • Leggings/jeggings are not considered pants and must be worn under an appropriate length dress or skirt.
  • No pajama or “pajama like” clothing is allowed.
  • Inappropriate patches, pictures, symbols, writings, slogans, or quotes - either attached or painted on clothing - are not to be worn. Clothing which desecrates the flag, deals with alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, or contains sexual references or innuendoes is prohibited.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times. No house shoes or slippers are allowed.
  • Caps or hats may not be worn in other campus buildings when we get breakfast and lunch.
  • Hair, mustaches, and sideburns shall be neat, clean and well groomed. Sideburns should be no longer than the bottom of the ear.
  • Hair should be natural colors.
  • No excessive piercings.
  • Tattoos that may cause a distraction should be covered at school.
  • All questions about dress code will be answered by the principal or designee. When the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school or have someone bring needed items to be in compliance. If the student’s dress code violation is not corrected, the student may be assigned in-school suspension or be sent home for the remainder of the day. Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

Adult Transition Services

The Transition in Texas website is a project of the Texas Secondary Transition/Post-School Results Network in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency. The purpose of this website is to provide viewers with knowledge of the secondary transition process to facilitate student progress toward attainment of their postsecondary goals.

Programs and services previously administered by the former Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) have been transferred by the Texas Legislature to the Texas Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS provides a range of services to Texans with disabilities that help ensure their well-being, dignity and choice. Programs also are in place to support family members who care for them. The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services has also become a part of HHS.

The Arc of Texas promotes, protects and advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in all aspects of society. The Arc of Greater Beaumont, is the local chapter that provides support and social experiences, as well as continued advocacy of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

South East Texas Transit (SETT) is a curb-to-curb service providing public transportation to residents of Orange County. Transportation is available anywhere in Orange County and to destinations within the county, Pt Arthur, and Beaumont.
